National Testing Agency (NTA)
The Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI) has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization under the Societies Registration Act (1860) for conducting efficient, transparent, and internationally standardized tests. The mission of the NTA is to improve equity and quality in education by developing and administering research-based, valid, reliable, efficient, transparent, fair, and internationally recognized assessments.
Central Universities or Union Universities in India are established by an Act of Parliament and are under the purview of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education. In general, Universities in India are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which draws its power from the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Additionally, 15 Professional Councils are established, controlling different aspects of accreditation and coordination. Central Universities are further covered by the Central Universities Act, 2009, which regulates their purpose, powers, governance, etc.
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is being introduced for admission into all UG Programmes in all Central Universities for every academic session under the Ministry of Education (MoE). The CUET provides a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates across the country, particularly those from rural and remote areas, facilitating better connections with the Universities. A single examination allows candidates to cover a wide outreach and be part of the admissions process to various Central Universities.
The CUET (UG) is conducted in 13 languages across India for admission into the Undergraduate Programmes in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for all Central Universities (CUs) and participating Universities in India for every academic year.

The selection and admission are subject to fulfilling the admission criteria, eligibility, rank in the merit list, medical fitness, verification of original documents, and such other criteria as may be prescribed by the University. Admissions are handled at the level of each of the Central Universities (CUs) for their respective programs. After the declaration of the CUET (UG) result by NTA, the respective CUs will declare the counseling/admission schedule and merit list based on the CUET (UG) score and other criteria of the respective University. For all admission-related procedures/queries, the candidates are advised to refer to the website of the applied University.
