Bosco Reach Out Career Guidance and Job Placement Services, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment (Employment Exchange Kokrajhar), ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), and Kokrajhar Government College, organized a job fair on April 29, 2025, at Kokrajhar Government College. The event attracted over 400 job seekers from Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, and neighboring regions. Featuring seven prominent recruiters offering diverse opportunities across India in sectors such as hospitality, retail, aviation, banking, manufacturing, and food processing, the job fair also included a career expo and awareness sessions aimed at empowering youth through both employment and guidance.
The event was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Ignatius Gari SDB, Associate Director of Bosco Reach Out, who welcomed dignitaries, employers, students, and officials. He emphasized the importance of collaborative platforms in addressing youth unemployment. Rev. Fr. Gabriel Karunaraj SDB, National Director of Don Bosco Job Placement Services, inspired the youth to look beyond their immediate environment and aspire for national-level careers. Adding strength to the initiative were officials from the Indian Army and Air Force, who introduced the Agni-Veer Program, motivating youth to consider meaningful careers in the defense services.
Government officials brought valuable insights to the gathering. Shri Sanatan Das, Sub-Regional Employment Officer, encouraged students to utilize government-run career centers for training and personalized guidance. Dr. Kunal Boro, District Employment Officer, emphasized skill development over settling for underpaid jobs and urged students to aim high. These inputs, along with the defense recruitment booths and audiovisual presentations, provided job seekers with a holistic understanding of available career paths and the preparation needed to succeed.
With over 200 job offers made by the end of the day, the fair proved to be highly impactful, particularly for first-time job seekers. Recruiters praised the discipline, dedication, and readiness of the candidates. The structured and supportive setup helped participants gain real-world interview experience and better understand employer expectations. The event’s success underscored the power of collaboration among educational institutions, NGOs, government departments, and the defense sector in building a strong employment ecosystem in Assam.
Among the many success stories, Ms. Mary Boro from Chirang, placed in the retail sector, said, “This job fair gave me my first career break. I felt guided and supported throughout the process.” Similarly, Mr. Rajib Das from Dhubri, who secured a role in hospitality, shared, “I was nervous, but the encouragement from the team helped me believe in myself. Now, I’m starting my professional journey.” Their experiences reflect the deeper impact of the initiative—not just in providing employment, but in building confidence, direction, and hope for the youth of the region.
